With a foundation in ecology, impact assessment and project management, Ben is an accomplished sustainability practitioner with ~30 years’ experience in environmental consulting and roles across corporate ESG advisory and sustainable finance.
Ben was part of the IBCM ESG Financing & Advisory team at Credit Suisse until 2023 where he covered the Asia Pacific region. Prior roles at the bank include as deputy global head of the corporate sustainability function. He was the first sustainability practitioner at the bank based in Asia, commencing his first role in 2008. Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Ben was a Board Member and one of three business Directors with the BMT Group in Hong Kong. While with BMT Ben assembled and lead a multidisciplinary team of c. 20 environmental, health & safety and social specialists on local / regional sustainability services for clients in a wide range of sectors.
In aggregate, Ben has advised on hundreds of assignments across the Asia Pacific region and globally. Services delivered include ESG materiality assessment and ratings advisory, corporate ESG strategy, environmental and social impact assessment, environmental mitigation and ecological compensation planning, monitoring & audit, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building for corporates and financial regulators. Associated corporate communications experience includes ESG/sustainability reporting, limited assurance, and green/sustainable finance framework documentation.
Ben has academic and professional qualifications in ecology, environmental management, and finance. Advisory roles include inter alia as Board Member of ASrIA (Asia Pacific regional social investment forum) until its integration into the UN Principles for Responsible Investment in 2017, and ongoing membership of WWF Hong Kong's Conservation Committee since 2010.
